Johnson Wagner Tabbed as one of the players to watch on the Nationwide Tour this year by several golf writers, Johnson is already living up to those expectations. In March 2006, he won the Chitimacha Louisiana Open, his first win on the Nationwide Tour, and followed that up with a victory at the Cox Classic of Omaha, considered one of the Tour’s majors. He is currently the leading money winner on the Nationwide Tour with over $336,000 in earnings. He is seeking his third win of the season, which would earn him a “Battlefield Promotion” straight to the PGA Tour for the remainder of the season and fully exempt status for 2007.
A native of the New York Metropolitan area, Johnson had an incredible run in 2001 and 2002, claiming five major Met Section events in a row. As an amateur, he won the 2001 Met Amateur and Met Open, and followed that up by winning the 2002 Ike Stroke Play, the Met Am, and the Met Open. A graduate of Virginia Tech, Johnson has spent the last three years on the Nationwide Tour, and has steadily improved each season, having finished 140th, 42nd, and 36th on the Year End Money List the last three seasons.
