Making a Difference at The Cliffs
When Jim Anthony began The Cliffs Communities more than 20 years ago, he had a vision of creating a better life for people in the Carolinas – a better life that extended beyond the boundaries of The Cliffs Communities. Today, we remain passionate about the importance of being able to have a helping, positive and lasting effect in the community.
In a unique program of “giving back” The Cliffs Communities recommends these four philanthropic organizations. Rick Fisher, Executive Director of SWS, spearheads The Cliffs’ relationship with these organizations and our philanthropic vision. With each purchase of a company homesite, The Cliffs Communities will donate two percent of the net purchase price to one of these four 501(c)(3) organizations.
The South Carolina Teacher Renewal Center
Renewing and sustaining teachers' commitment to excellent teaching
The South Carolina Teacher Renewal Center will provide learning experiences designed to renew and sustain teachers’ commitment to excellent teaching and to enhance their ability to lead effective innovation in their classrooms and schools. The Center will respond to the need for providing South Carolina teachers with comprehensive support for professional and personal growth as educators, team members and individual people.
Designation of the two percent charitable contribution to the South Carolina Teacher Renewal Center provides donors with the opportunity to honor a teacher who made a special impact in their lives. This recognition will be provided in a location within the Teacher Renewal Center facility that honors and celebrates commitment to teaching.
Jim Anthony, Founder and President of The Cliffs Communities, Inc. said, “The Teacher Renewal Center will offer a venue and programming designed to renew teachers’ spirits and celebrate their contributions to our children, our state and to our nation. Our Cliffs property owners and associates are honored to be part of a project that will make a tremendous difference now in the lives of literally thousands of teachers and children in South Carolina, and also for generations to come. Being involved in this initiative is simply the right thing to do.”
Pinnacle Partners of the Carolinas, Inc.
Every child deserves an outdoor experience
With an ultimate goal of allowing the children of the Carolinas to enjoy the benefits of a true outdoor experience, Pinnacle Partners has amassed numerous land tracts within the 40,000-acre Jocassee Gorges wilderness. These properties, acquired over the past 20 years, intertwine with the Foothills Trail and some lie along Lake Jocassee.
Pinnacle Partners is working on special projects with Clemson University Youth Learning Institute to connect organizations such as schools, scouts, churches and more to the opportunities available in these camps and activity areas by providing access to these protected properties. In addition, Pinnacle Partners is working with the Department of Natural Resources to establish hiking trails and biking trails. Canoeing and water sports activities are additional focus areas along with programs such as a kids’ triathlon.
Zest Quest Associates, Inc.
Getting kids on a health kick for life
The alarming rise of childhood obesity and Type II diabetes has brought the issue of our children’s sedentary lifestyle to the forefront. Television, computer time, lack of safe playing environments, questions of safety walking to and from school, the proliferation of fast food and parents’ hectic work schedules have contributed to a generation that is 40 percent overweight, where one out of three children will develop Type II diabetes. This will be the first generation that is not expected to have a longer life span than its parents.
Zest Quest® Program is an organization that uses wellness coaches and volunteers whose mission to educate and inspire children and their families to live healthy lifestyles. Working together with the staff of local and regional elementary schools, the Zest Quest team has created comprehensive programming that encourages children to practice good nutrition and the importance of exercise. Teaching a curriculum of “7 Daily Healthy Habits” and encouraging both kids and faculty members to be enthusiastic about the benefits of healthy habits, the Zest Quest program not only leads to better physical health, but better intellectual and emotional health, as well.

Parkland Trust, Inc.
A promise for the future
The location of The Cliffs Communities amid remarkable natural beauty has led many of our associates and property owners to support Parkland Trust, Inc. The purpose of this organization is to hold and preserve scenic wilderness in South Carolina and North Carolina for the purposes of conservation and education. It is the firm belief of this organization that our most valuable resource is pristine wilderness, and the preservation, availability and access to these areas is important for spiritual, physical and emotional well being. This group has established alliances for the express purpose of providing outdoor education programs for children and adults.
